The VV connection transformer is one of the forms of transformers used directly for railway traction. It represents a specific application of single-phase transformers in railway traction. This type of transformer has two structural forms:

Three-column structure: In this form, two single-phase transformers are placed in the same oil tank. Each of the coils of the two single-phase transformers is wound around the side columns of two iron cores. The central column of the iron core does not have coils but forms the magnetic flux path.

Four-column structure: In this arrangement, two transformers are used in conjunction. This form provides options for both equal and unequal capacity between the two single-phase transformers.

These variations in structural forms allow for flexible configurations to meet specific requirements in railway traction applications.
